Abstract
Nursing Education at any period in time is to some extent intrinsically related to the health care system which is a sub-system of the broad societal macro system. Discussing nursing education in Nigeria today with its handicaps would be incomplete without a brief examination of what preceded the current stage. For this paper, today refers to a period of ten years that spanned from 1978 to 1989; the immediate past entails the period between 1968 to 1977; handicaps refer to the factors that do not allow for an integrated and holistic view of nursing education.
